Name (or preferred name) Maree Kazakis
Teaching area Foundation
Teaching experience, qualifications, professional development achievements. I graduated from RMIT Bundoora, with a bachelor of Education (primary) with honours first class and I have been teaching for the last 4 years, in 2015 I was in a support role where I taught students from year prep to six, including specialist classes. In 2016, I taught prep and in 2017 I taught a grade 2 class. This year I am teaching in a flexible learning space and have an F-2 class.
Throughout my teaching experience I have engaged in a great deal of professional development and look forward to every new opportunity to continue to learn and become the best teacher I can be.
Tell us about your approach to teaching and learning: I believe all students should have an opportunity to feel safe and supported, I place an emphasis on student wellbeing when I teach to ensure that all students’ needs are met and they become the best possible versions of themselves. I enjoy providing students with engaging, hands on learning experiences and encourage students to become independent, resilient and empowered learners. I love witnessing students thrive and help them overcome challenges they may face.
What is the best part of being a teacher? The best part of being a teacher is building strong student –teacher relationships and witnessing the impact it has not only on the students but on myself as well.
What are you looking forward to about teaching in a brand new school? I look forward to the opportunity to teach at a brand new school due to having only taught at large schools, it will be refreshing to work at a school that is smaller as it is just beginning. This will allow me to get to know most students and families and build powerful relationships not just with the students I teach but all students I interact with. I am also looking forward to helping build a strong school community and having a positive impact on the foundations of Our Lady of the Way.
What are you interests outside of school life? I love travelling and have been lucky enough to visit about 17 countries since 2012, I love meeting locals and appreciating life in other parts of the world. I am currently building my first home with my partner and look forward to furniture shopping most weekends. I enjoy spending time with ALL animals, and have recently rescued a 7 month old ginger kitten, named Henry (after Prince Harry) who fits perfectly into our family. I enjoy going to the gym, reading and spending time with my family and friends, especially my nephew and niece. I am due to be an Aunty again, anytime now and cannot wait to meet my new baby niece.
