Hi, I’m Mark van Zyl and I’m teaching grades 4,5,6 next year.

My approach to teaching and learning:
I respect every individual and their right to learn, I will challenge every student to reach their full potential and guide each student to be the best version of themselves. Making mistakes and being challenged is necessary for learning. Happy students are the best learners.
What is the best part of being a teacher?
Watching students grow in confidence and when they share their ‘WOW’ moments in their learning. And, being creative in the classroom.
Why did you want to join the team at Our Lady of the Way?
Our Lady of the Way is part of my Parish community, I’m excited to be part of helping develop a new school, Love the staff and the OLW teaching philosophy.
What are you looking forward to about teaching in a brand new school?
Working with new students, staff and parents.
Helping create a new learning environment.

Born in Melbourne and grew up in Broadford and now live in Kilmore. I have three awesome children and an amazing supportive wife. Our family also includes pets: a cavoodle, a canary, three fish, a rabbit and three chickens.
Favourite colour: Orange
Favourite sport/team: Love all sports.
What are you interests outside of school life?
Gardening, Making furniture, drawing, family time. My hobbies include : Archery, Woodwork, gardening, bike riding.
